A to Bee Ecology Walks

Ranger Walks

Come and join us for a walk around the beautiful and private setting of Chiddinglye Manor. Ross, our ecologist, conservation expert and ranger, will show you around this incredible 320 acre location, how to look for signs of wildlife, how to identify the varied flora and fauna on the estate, how the estate is managed, and how the natural world can be of benefit to us all.

The estate is home to a wide range of wildlife that are synonymous with the English countryside and you will learn how to look for tracks, dens, setts, lairs, nests and colonies and for other signs of life. Ross also is a keen forager, so he’ll also be able to show you what is edible or can be used medicinally.

Weekends only – at the end of the walk there is the option for one of Becky’s AKA The Garden Chef wonderful picnics, to be enjoyed, either outside in the wild or under cover in the Missing Link Tap Room (check out her Instagram account @thegardenchef and start salivating!). The walk will normally end at the Tap Room, the estates own brewery bar, where, should you wish, you can the relax with a coffee or pint or two of Missing Link beer. There is usually food available to purchase on the day as well.

A to Bee Ecology Foraging

Foraging Walks

Join us for a forage and a rummage around the beautiful and private setting of Chiddinglye. Ross, our ecologist and conservation expert, will show you the plants (and part of the plants) that can be used both in the kitchen and in the apothecary.

The walk will end at the Tap Room, the estates own brewery bar, where, should you wish, you can relax with a pint or two of Missing Link beer.

A to Bee Ecology Foraging

Bat Walks (Spring/Summer only)

Join us for an evening bat talk and walk around the beautiful and private setting of Chiddinglye. Ross, our ecologist and conservation expert, will share his knowledge of the bats of the UK, before setting you off with a bat detector to find bats yourself. We may even see a few owls (we’ll definitely hear them).

"We had such a great morning out with Ross. Learnt lots in a beautiful outdoor setting. I would recommend to all. Still talking about it with the family weeks after. The picnic was the best picnic I’ve had in a long time. Excellent food. 5 stars!!!"

"A very informative walk with Ross. He had great knowledge of the flora and fauna and local geology. There was plenty of time allowed to take in the surrounding and he didn’t mind how many questions we asked."

 Educational Events

Chiddinglye Estate, West Sussex

Visits for schools and other children’s groups

If you are a teacher or involved in running activities for school, Cubs, Beavers, Scouts or other children/youth groups then please get in touch and we can organise fun ecological based learning activities for the kids based in the woodlands of the Chiddinglye estate.

Ecology Parties

Our ecology parties have been very popular. We muck around in the woods at Chiddinglye (literally muck around – mud is a very important component to the parties) for a couple of hours, learning about wildlife and other important woodland skills like whittling and tracking.

Becky (aka the Garden Chef, also based at Chiddinglye) can provide picnics and even a cake if required.

Business / Corporate Days

Take your team building outdoors

If the last few years has taught us anything it’s that time together is important and that we need to get outside for our health. So why not book in a team day at Chiddinglye Estate.

We can take your team to the great outdoors, getting out in to nature and bonding amongst acres of incredible Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We can tailor the day specifically to your teams’ needs and provide food. We also have a brewery and Tap Room on-site for post activity refreshments.
